In keeping with the season of Thanksgiving, I thought I'd share one of our favorite Holiday crafts. If you have relatives coming in from out of town, or are blessed with extended family in your own backyard, why not make something to treasure for years to come?
DIY Keepsake Thanksgiving Tablecloth
Years ago I saw this as a 'Thankful Tablecloth' a fellow mom created with her family. After she explained how easy it was and relatively inexpensive (well under $20), I knew I HAD to make one as well.
The original "Thanksgiving Tablecloth" included thankful quotes from each member of the family and a corresponding scripture. We decided on a slightly different take. We omitted writing our 'thanksgivings' on it until next year and choosing a blessing verse.
It's so simple! First, measure your table. Then, buy the appropriate sized tablecloth (preferably in white), a plastic tablecloth cover (they should sell them in the same aisle as the tablecloth), paint pen (if you plan on doing a lot of writing, buy more than one), colored acrylic paints in colors of your choice.
After laundering the tablecloth, iron well. Set tablecloth on table, assign colors to each member of the family and let the fun begin!
Add paint to hands with a sponge brush OR just squirt directly onto hands and rub well over palms.
Have each family member press their hands palm down onto the table cloth without rolling their hands. It helps to have another family member gently push each finger onto the tablecloth.
After the hand prints are put down, choose the scripture you wish to use.
We chose Deuteronomy 1:11 "May the Lord, the God of your fathers, increase you a thousand times and bless you as he has promised!"
Write your scripture in pencil and then outline in black paint pen. After it dries completely, you can cover with the plastic to keep it clean and use it year after year.
