Welcome back to Apologia Physical Science Module 12 and The Forces in Creation - Part 2.
What happened to Part 1 you ask? Well, that's a great question! It seems that when Module 11 labs were being done, my photographer didn't take pictures. OOPS!
Apologia Physical Science Module 12 Labs
Experiment 12.1 Electrical Attraction and Repulsion
In this experiment we will see how electrically charged objects attract and repel one another.
After blowing up two balloons, tie a string to each "end" and hang them up over a doorway. Rub one balloon to your hair and pass it by the other balloon ...observe.
Next, rub the other balloon in your hair and pass it by the first balloon. What happens?
Experiment 12.2 Making and Using an Electroscope
In this experiment we build a device that detects the presence of an electrical charge and learn about the basic methods used to charge an object.
Using a paper clip, foil, plastic lid and pliers, fashion the top portion of the electroscope. Set the finished "lid" on a glass.
Slowly bring a blown up balloon close to the loop on top of the lid and observe.
Now, rub the balloon on your hair and slowly bring the balloon close to the loop and observe.
It's hard to tell from the picture, but, the foil hanging off the bottom of the lid does indeed move with an electrical charge!
Experiment 12.3 Current and Resistance
In this experiment makes electrons flow through a circuit!
Using foil and your fingers, CAREFULLY pinch the top and bottom end of a AA battery.
Yow! What happens? (hint - it's hot, hot, hot!)
There are no labs for Module 13...so, join us next time for Module 14 Waves and Sounds.
