Easy Piano Basics from JazzEdge may be right for you!
Easy Piano Basics brings you lessons streaming via the internet right into your home. Creator and Berklee College of Music graduate, Willie Myette, offers a stress free and easy to comprehend beginning to piano instruction that can be used on any keyboard all for one price.
Starting with the basics, this program can teach even the most inexperienced player just by practicing 10 minutes 5 days a week. Lessons are between 2:30-10:30 minutes in length and are shown with the instructor at his keyboard with an overview shot of his hands and light up note keyboard.
Our Experience with Easy Piano Basics
I reviewed this product with my 11 year old daughter who has never taken music lessons. Since we had access to a keyboard and didn't need any extra equipment, except a printer to print out some sheet music, I thought this would be a good way to expose her to a whole different world. She agreed to try - and so we were off on a new adventure.
Logging on, we quickly and easily find where to access the lessons. I sit and watch the instruction with her and then answer any questions she may have. The lessons are very thorough and she's able to go and practice on her own with minimal assistance from me.
We begin with absolute basics - high/low notes, musical alphabet, and how to sit at the piano. So far, so good. When we get to the 5 Finger Scale, she has a little problem with the syncing of fingers but eventually she gets the coordination down. This is a definite victory for her!
In Lesson 8 we get to the actual note reading. Though this lesson is presented well, my daughter needs extra time on it in order to firmly grasp this new information before moving on.

The lessons continue on through time signatures, sharps and flats, major/minor chords as well as basic rhythms.
Final thoughts about Easy Piano Basics
Eventhough my daughter is a kinestetic learner, the going for her was slow. While these streaming lessons are created to be self-paced, (which is a good thing) I was stunned that she didn't care for the actual learning. For her, the different camera views during Willie's instruction was more distracting and frustrating than helpful. I guess she'd rather be taught in person rather than virtually. Honestly, I'm a bit surprised!
I am glad though that we got to try these lessons first hand. While I enjoyed Willie's friendly, warm and encouraging style, it wasn't my daughter's cup of tea. I know I would have been delighted with this sort of instruction as a beginner!
