Beachbody 21 Day Fix Portion Control Containers
Once upon a time there was a girl with a high metabolism. This girl loved to eat. She ate whatever she wanted and as much she wanted. Her favorites were meat and vegetables but also ice cream and chips. Did I mention that this girl was really s-k-i-n-n-y too?
Life continued on like this for her for many, many years until WHAMMO...she had 3 babies and turned 38. Time was wearing that metabolism down, but, that didn't stop skinny girl! She modified a little (no ice cream or chips), and continued eating.
On the eve of skinny girl's 41st birthday, baby #4 arrived. DOUBLE WHAMMO - bye bye metabolism! But did skinny girl change her eating habits? Well, she thought she was doing ok until the years started to creep up along with the pounds. Now all her clothes were tight and she felt physically awful. She had tried "this and that" but it all failed.
You see, skinny girl had no clue about portion control!
I am this girl!
Fortunately help was close at hand.
One day I was at friend and Beachbody coach's house. She had some nifty containers on her counter. At first I though they were play toys. After she explained what they were and the accompanying 21 Day Fix program from Beachbody, I KNEW I had to give this program a try.
That yellow container (carbs) sold me! Here's why....
I'm not a big cereal person. But, if I were going to have a bowl, I would fill it to the level pictured below on the right and NOT the suggested serving size recommended by Beachbody on the left.
You can clearly see the difference between an appropriate serving vs. what I thought was appropriate once it's dumped on a plate. YOWZA!
For the first time in my life, I was SEEING my total lack of portion control!
Getting started on your 21 Day Fix is easy. Within the Eating Plan Guide is a simple formula to help set up your specific portions/containers.
I fall into the 1200-1499 calorie range which gives me per day:
3 green (veggie)
2 purple (fruit)
4 red (protein)
2 yellow (carbs)
1 blue (healthy fats/cheese)
1 orange (seeds and nuts)
2 tsp (oils, nut butters)
Surprising, when you are eating clean and unprocessed foods, you actually consume less. So, the above container set up comes out to be a LOT of food to eat!!
Undeniably, my favorites are the red (meat) and green (veggie) containers. I've had to really work on eating all the purple (fruit) containers, but, I am making progress!
Today is Day #5 of my 21 Day Fix. I can honestly say that I feel good about what I'm eating. I'm also changing those bad habits into positive, long-lasting healthy habits.
It's been fun figuring out my daily meals and snacks (yes, I did say SNACKS!), learning proper portions and NOT feeling hungry in the process!
Here's an example of what I did eat. Granted, this is from Day 1 and it was a "grab and get to co-op" kind of day.
I normally don't eat fruit WITH my meals, but, I was willing to try. I found out later that I could have had another hard boiled egg in my red container. (and a side note, the zucchini on the plate hasn't been warmed up yet. It's leftovers that were sauteed in a small amount of coconut oil.)
LOOK AT ALL THAT FOOD!
For dinner one night, I had "Stuffed Taco Lettuce Boats" consisting of romaine lettuce, fresh tomatoes, fresh avocado and ground turkey. That's 1 red, 1 green and 1 blue container.
Join me next week to hear about the exercise portion of the 21 Day Fix!
